Welcome to Iwate

Why, hello there! This is your English guide to Iwate, a prefecture located in northeast Japan. Blessed with rich, abundant natural beauty, Iwate is a source of great potential, and most importantly, the land which we call home. This is the official website for the prefectural government of Iwate and we're glad to serve you.

We're in the process of creating a guide to living in Iwate for foreign residents, and will slowly but surely be updating our information. Please check out the links on the side to learn about sightseeing recommendations, life in the area, and about our reconstruction from the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

How can we sum up Iwate? Maybe it's best described as a place where you can forge your own path. We welcome anyone who'd like to give it a try.

If you have any suggestions, send us an email at AB0011@pref.iwate.jp.
