A message from the Governor of Iwate about COVID-19 (July 30th)
-A message given by Governor Tasso during the 18th meeting of the Iwate Prefecture COVID-19 Countermeasures HQ (July 30th)-
Yesterday, we had our first confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Iwate. I sincerely wish a fast recovery to those who have been infected.
At the prefectural government, while we strive to provide adequate medical care to the infected patients, we will work closely with the city of Morioka, where the public health center is located, to identify those who were in close contact with the infected as part of our Active Epidemiological Investigation to prevent the further spread of the virus. We will also swiftly provide accurate information to residents of Iwate as much as we can through various media outlets, such as the news, our official prefectural website, social media apps such as LINE or Twitter, and others.
Anyone can catch this COVID-19 virus, therefore, I implore all residents to, once again, continue avoiding the “3 Cs”, which are enclosed spaces with poor ventilation, gathering in crowded areas, and conversing in close-contact, in addition to frequently washing your hands and practicing social distancing with others.
If you are experiencing symptoms, such as fever, and not feeling well, please have it checked at the clinic or hospital.
As for administering more tests for the coronavirus, upon setting up a new regional outpatient and testing center in the Kuji area today, we now have 10 testing locations available within 9 designated medical areas across the prefecture.
Following the new “infection scenarios” that were established based on the current situation of the novel coronavirus across the country, we have also reinforced measures in medical care by acquiring enough hospital beds to prepare for a potential peak in infections within the prefecture, as well as, acquiring accommodation facilities for patients with mild symptoms.
I would like to use this opportunity to remind all residents to express their appreciation and provide their emotional support to those working in the medical fields or in essential fields to maintain the daily lives of Iwate residents.
As we are currently seeing an increase in infection rates across the country, we will consider establishing more specific measures for the prefecture, such as when traveling to high-risk areas, after taking into account the analyses and discussions made at the Expert Meeting on the Novel Coronavirus Disease Control, which will be held this weekend by the national government.
Meanwhile, I kindly ask all residents to keep track of not only the coronavirus situation in Iwate Prefecture, but also in other prefectures, and to follow the disease control measures of the area you are visiting should you decide to travel to other regions or prefectures.
