All children between the ages of 6 and 15 must attend elementary and junior high school. This includes special needs schools for children with disabilities. Most public elementary and junior high schools are established and managed by local municipalities, and your children must attend the designated school for where you live. For details on how to arrange entry into these schools, please contact your local board of education.

School lessons run from Monday to Friday. School finishes in the afternoon, and class times may vary according to your child’s grade-level. The academic year runs from April 1 to March 31 of the following year.

Tuition

-There is no charge for tuition and textbooks at public schools
-Lunches and lesson materials must be paid for

School events

Numerous events and a PTA (Parent Teacher Association) are established at each school to further familiarity and improve communication between teachers and guardians, schools, and their communities. Teachers frequently contact parents and guardians, sometimes requesting direct participation in such events.

Examples: home visits by teachers, student presentations, parent/guardian conferences, visitation days, and athletic meets.
