The second-largest prefecture in Japan, Iwate is blessed with a rich natural environment and clear seasonal changes, providing perfect conditions for agricultural and marine products. The climate and culture vary greatly between the regions, making it a destination to enjoy an array of gastronomical delights. With its long and harsh winters, food has played an important role and a culture of appreciation for nature's bounties is deeply rooted in Iwateans.
In recent years, efforts have been made to cater to people with a diverse range of dietary needs, and while the number of restaurants that cater to vegetarians in the prefecture is growing, it is still very limited. Nevertheless, we hope that this guidebook will assist you on your travels to discover Iwate.
