Women in Iwate: Marriage, Child Raising and Farm Work - Mothersf Life in the Showa Period -

This exhibition shows gwomen's lives in Iwate in the Showa periodh from mothersf point of view. Items and photographs of various scenes in family life are displayed, including weddings, childbirth, childcare, and working on the farm and in the mountains. You will see the toughness and the cheerfulness of mothers and families living in the period.

The Nature and Culture of the Kunohe Region - Kuji City and Surrounding Areas -

May 30th - July 5th


"Noda Tamagawa"iby Toyokuni Utagawaj

The Kunohe District consists of Kuji City, Hirono Town, Karumai Town, Kunohe Village, and Noda Village. The Kunohe District has a strong connection with the Hachinohe region in Aomori, and the Hachinohe Clan occupied most parts of the region during the Edo Period (1603-1867). In this exhibition, special characteristics, including the nature, history, and culture of the Kunohe region are introduced. (Including Kuzumaki Village which was shifted from the Kunohe to the Iwate District in 1948).

People who Worked to Preserve the Historic Sites of Iwate - Rokuro Odashima -

July 18th - August 30th

During the time between the Taisho Period (1912-1926) and the beginning of the Showa Period (1926-1989), Iwatefs historic sites, specifically its shell mounds, received attention from throughout the nation. At that time, Rokuro Odashima was the person who put effort into the preservation of historic sites in Iwate and also worked to make these sites, including the shell mounds, recognized as national historical sites.

Living with Wild Animals - Iwatefs Deer and Bear -

The mysterious life and ecology of the Japanese deer and Asiatic black bear, and their present situation in Iwate are introduced here in details. The significance of the coexistence between wild animals and people today, and ways of achieving it are also considered.

Going on a journey is always fun and enjoyable, what we see in our eyes gives us something new in our mind. In this exhibition, different styles of journeys from the Edo Period (1603-1867) to modern times are introduced. Every journey has a different purpose and these are also introduced here.
