The Local Office for the Excavation of Yanaginogosho Site

 Designated as the historic site in March 1997, Yanaginogosho site will be restored for
the historical park in future by the Iwate Board of Education. The full-scale excavation
started in 1998 for the 'Project for Investigation and Restoration of Yanaginogosho Site'.
This office was set up in May 1998, as a base for excavation, investigation of remains
and information of the Hiraizumi culture.
 This office is about a five minutes walk from Hiraizumi Station and possessed the
remains from the sites in Hiraizumi, and related materials. You can visit here at any
time except Saturday, Sunday and national holidays.

 Archaeological remains in Iwate are stored and some of them are exhibited. The
remains from Yanaginogosho site excavated by the Center from 1988 to 1993 are also
stored. Most of the wooden implements which were treated with the chemical
preservation are managed in the special conservation room.

Yanaginogosho Museum

 The Ministry of Consruction and Hiraizumi Town established this museum in
commemoration of the opening of Hiraizumi Bye-pass. The museum is divided into two
sections. The first section exhibits the remains from Yanaginogosho site and the second
section introduces the projects of Ichinoseki Dam and Hiraizumi Bye-pass by the
Ministry.
 The first section shows all sorts of remains including stamp, white porcelain with four
ears and wooden implements from the site. The section shows the embankment works of
the Kitakami River with panels and georamas of the flood control of Kitakami River and
also explains the role of road and river for the city planning.

Hiraizumi Historical Artifacts Museum

 This museum was established in 1986 for the purpose of advancement of regional
culture including as traditional performing arts. It has the stage practicing, training
and performing the traditional arts in this region. This building also contains the
Historical Museum and the Archaeological Center, which collect, store and investigate
the materials related to the Hiraizumi culture during the Oshu Fujiwara period, and
the archaeological remains excavated from Yanaginogosho, Shirayama, Karanogosho
and other sites in Hiraizumi are exhibited.
 The area outside of the building called Hanadate site, which was designated as a part
of Motsuji Temple, special historic site, has become a historical park and is used for
many activities.
