One-Time Pension Withdrawal Payments

If you are a foreign national who has been paying into the pension scheme and you leave Japan, you are effectively discarding all your contributions, as you will not be able to receive the pension. However, if you fulfil certain conditions you are eligible to claim a one-off pension withdrawal payment.

[Major Criteria]
(1) You are a foreign national.

(2) You have paid contributions for at least 6 months.

(3) You have already returned to your home country, and are no longer residing in Japan.

(4) Less than 2 years have passed since you left Japan.

Complete the application form(available at Social Insurance Office)   〔Documentation〕  pension book
copy of your passport (with departure stamp)   copy of deposit account passbook   home country bank account information    following departure from Japan

The withdrawal payment (up to 3 years’ worth) will be transferred to the specified home country bank account, minus a 20% tax.
