Re-entry Permit

If you plan to go to another country temporarily and then re-enter Japan, it is necessary to apply for a re-entry permit before you leave Japan. If you do not do so you will have great problems when trying to re-enter Japan. Re-entry permits are available from your local immigration office and are necessary for all foreign nationals when they temporarily leave Japan, even those with permanent residency.

Generally re-entry permits are valid for a single trip, but if you will be making frequent trips overseas you may apply for a multiple re-entry permit. Each re-entry permit is valid within the duration of stay and for a maximum of 3 years.

In Iwate applications for re-entry permits may be made at the Regional Immigration Bureau in Sendai, or the Morioka Branch Office (>>Immigration Offices). Permits are usually issued immediately.
