Raw Sewage Due to the limited spread of the sewerage system, many pit toilets (non-flushing, connected to a septic tank) remain. This means that every so often you will have to pay to have the tank cleaned (kumitori; note that the toilets themselves are also called kumitori toilets). Each municipality will have a designated contractor so it is important to find out from your landlord, neighbours or the local municipal office.
