Japanese Laws
Laws are rules to uphold the social order and must be obeyed by members of that society. All foreign nationals, apart from diplomats, who are in Japan, are bound by Japanese laws. Without laws there is no way to regulate and if necessary, punish the actions of society members. You could say that laws create the framework for individuals’ freedom.

Laws that determine the nature of the Japanese nation; have precedence over all other laws
・Legislation
Laws that are determined by the only legislative body in Japan, the National Diet
・Government and Ministerial ordinances, regulations
Laws whose details are determined by the Cabinet, ministries, chambers, and the Court of Appeal, in accordance with legislation to implement legislation
・Acts
Laws determined by local administrative bodies, within the legislation framework

There are several hundred laws governing Japan, and it is very difficult to know them all. However, a long as you use your common sense in your daily lives and not do anything that causes inconvenience others, it is unlikely that you will break the law.
However, ignorance of the law will not exempt you from punishment if you do not break the law. Also, your legal rights will not benefit you unless you exercise them. Hence, it is necessary to check all the information provided by the administrative bodies.
