Transferring Your Licence

If you wish to transfer your home country licence or international licence into a Japanese one, you will need to apply at the Iwate Prefecture Driver Licensing Centres (Morioka, Kennan, Engan, Kenpoku), or Automobile Driver Licensing Examination Center.

[Conditions of Transfer]
(1) You must hold a valid home country driving licence.

(2) You must have been residing in your home country for at least 3 months after your licence was issued.

[Documentation]
(1) Home country licence

(2) Passport

(3) Alien Registration Card or Certificate (>> Alien Registration Card)

(4) Photographs × 2 (3 cm × 2.4 cm)

(5)Translation of home country licence (3,000yen by Japan Automobile Federation)

[Conditions of License Issue]
You will have to satisfy the application criteria (application form), pass a sight test, as well as a simple written test.
