Getting a Japanese Licence
If you plan to take the Japanese driving test you can choose to take classes at a driving school, or practice independently. You will need to learn the Highway Code. Having done so you will need to take a written test as well as a practical driving test.
The time and cost involved in taking driving lessons is great (at least 30 hours
and 300,000yen), but even for Japanese nationals it is very difficult to pass
the test having studied independently.
However, if you do not have a driving licence from your own country then you have little choice but to take this route. It goes without saying that it is a necessary condition that you have a good grasp of the Japanese language.
