Fire
The majority of Japanese houses are wooden, making them susceptible to rapid, devastating blazes that easily spread to surrounding buildings. It is therefore of utmost importance that you be cautious in your handling of fire in everyday life. If fire from your home damages neighbouring residences, you may be required to pay compensation.
If the event of a fire, place a handkerchief or similar item over your mouth, stay low to the floor to prevent smoke inhalation, and follow the evacuation lights to an exit.
Also, in order to decrease the number of deaths due to household fires, it is now mandatory to install private home fire alarms in all stand-alone houses, etc.
