Staying Healthy
Health check-ups are not covered under health insurance as they are preventative rather than actual treatment. If you have a health check-up you will be responsible for 100% of the medical examination fee.
However, because of their importance in maintaining a healthy populace, free or low-cost check-ups are regularly offered to citizens by local government. If you are interested please contact your local prefectural or municipal health centre, which is where the check-ups are carried out. Details of dates and times are also carried in municipal information bulletins ( >> Bulletins ).
If you are employed by a company, the company has to bear the cost of a regular medical check-up for you.
