Health (Social) Insurance

Employees will normally be enrolled in the social insurance scheme. Foreign nationals are also eligible for this insurance. Companies are required to enrol all their employees, even if they are only employed for a short time. Insurance premium payments are split between the employee and the employer, with employee contributions being withheld at the source (salary and bonuses).

Employers enrol their employees at the Social Insurance Office (a national body, >> Social Insurance Offices ), after which a social insurance card is issued. Dependents of the insured are automatically covered for no extra charge.

When joining the social insurance scheme it is compulsory to join the welfare pension scheme ( >> Pension System ). Your pension contributions will be withheld at source. (For details about the lump sum withdrawal payment scheme see >> One-Time Pension Withdrawal Payments.)
