Medical Facilities

According to their size medical facilities are classified as hospital, doctor's practice or clinic (but quite often they are all referred to as hospital).

Hospitals: many different departments (usually) in-patient beds
Clinics: normally only a few (or no) in-patient beds; individually owned and run

When seeking medical care you may choose a big, well-equipped hospital, but usually outpatient clinics are confined to the morning only, and there will be many other patients waiting to be seen. On the other hand, you may decide that you prefer to go to an individual doctor's practice, where the doctor is available all day. In general these are experienced doctors who have spent time working in one of the big hospitals. Probably in the event of a cold or a minor injury you would be best to go to a doctor's practice.
