In Iwate, Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc. (Tohoku Denryoku) is the sole provider of electricity, so if you wish to use electricity you must have a contract with this company.

Starting Service

When you move in you will need to contact your nearest branch and give details such as you name, address and preferred method of payment. The company will then complete all necessary procedures. (If you are unable to do so, you can ask the meter reader who will visit each month.) To switch on the electricity you just need to switch the circuit breaker (often in the hall or kitchen) to “ON”. If for some reason you cannot use the electricity when the switch is in the “ON” position, please contact Tohoku Denryoku.

Payment of Charges

You may pay for your electricity either by direct debit, or by bank transfer ( >> Direct Debit , >> Bank Transfers ) upon receipt of your electricity bill.

Cancelling Supply

When you know that you will be leaving your current address you must contact Tohoku Denryoku at least 5 days before vacating the property. On the day you leave an electrician will visit to switch off the power supply and collect any remaining charges.
