Changes to the residence system in 2012

ID番号 N32729 更新日 平成29年4月25日

There were a great many changes to Japan’s immigration system in 2012 to streamline the process. The biggest change was getting rid of the old “Foreigner registration card” system, replacing it with Residence cards, and placing foreign residents on the Resident Registry along with Japanese residents. Foreign residents entering the system following July 9, 2012 were automatically placed in the new system, and residents on the old system were updated.

If you’re curious about the change, please read the Immigration Bureau’s website on the matter.
